Andras Schiff Brings THE BACH PROJECT to Walt Disney Concert Hall, 10/17 & 24

Andras Schiff Brings THE BACH PROJECT to Walt Disney Concert Hall, 10/17 & 24

Pianist András Schiff, as part of his two-year exploration of Bach's keyboard music comes to Walt Disney Concert Hall twice this month, tonight, October 17, at 8 pm, and Wednesday, October 24, at 8 pm. In the first engagement, he plays Book 1 of The Well-Tempered Clavier, in a Colburn Celebrity Recital. The following Wednesday, he tackles Book 2 in a Baroque Variations performance.

Schiff's Bach Project follows his successful two-year project in which he performed all 32 of Beethoven's piano sonatas in seasons 2007/08 and 2008/09. His next Bach venture at Walt Disney Concert Hall delves further into Bach's keyboard repertoire as he presents the complete Keyboard French Suites and the French Overture in a single evening in April.

Indisputably one of the most prominent proponents of the keyboard works of J.S. Bach, András Schiff has long proclaimed that Bach stands at the core of his music making. The Bach Project is comprised of six Bach recitals and an orchestral week of Bach, Schumann and Mendelssohn with Schiff at the piano and on the podium, and in addition to Walt Disney Concert Hall, the project visits San Francisco's Symphony Hall and New York's Carnegie Hall. Individual recitals will be presented in Vancouver, Seattle, Washington, DC, Chicago, Santa Barbara, Chapel Hill, Ann Arbor, Boston and Toronto.

Schiff's new recordings of both Books of The Well-Tempered Clavier for ECM – a four-disc set that includes an essay by Schiff, was released in September of 2012.

A microsite created by ECM and devoted to The Bach Project can be accessed via: www.andrasschiff.com.
