Berliner Philharmoniker Announces Launch of Digital Concert Hall App

Berliner Philharmoniker Announces Launch of Digital Concert Hall App

The Berliner Philharmoniker today announced the launch of a new Digital Concert Hall (DCH) app - a free app available for iPhone (from version 4), iPad and iPod touch users from the Apple App Store.

The DCH app is the Berliner Philharmoniker's response to Digital Concert Hall subscribers and music enthusiasts who want to access concerts on their mobile devices or through Apple TV. Available free with the DCH app is an extensive selection of video clips previewing the live concerts, filmed interviews, Education concerts and trailers, as well as biographies of all Berliner Philharmoniker musicians. Additional free content includes a full concert performance from the DCH archives of Mahler's Symphony No. 1 and Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 conducted by Principal Conductor, Sir Simon Rattle.

Premium content includes some 40 concerts streamed live each season, as well as unlimited access to an extensive collection of Archive concerts, documentaries and films, which can be purchased through the app for periods of either 7 days ($10.99) or 30 days ($27.99). An annual subscription can also be purchased online from the DCH for approximately $185 per year, and accessed through the app.

The Berliner Philharmoniker's Digital Concert Hall was designed and developed by the Berlin Phil Media GmbH, a subsidiary of the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation. The only musical institution to make nearly all its concert programs available live in HD quality, the Berliner Philharmoniker sets a precedent for distribution of classical music via digital media. Supported by Deutsche Bank since its inception in 2008, DCH's audiovisual recording technology is provided by Sony.

Olaf Maninger, principal cellist and general manager of Berlin Phil Media, commented, "With this app, we are taking a further step to reach out to people all over the world with our concerts. It is a simple and intuitive way to access the wide variety of content the Digital Concert Hall has to offer and uses all the possibilities of touch-screen navigation. It's a great way to experience the world of the Berliner Philharmoniker - and for the first time while you are on the move, wherever you happen to be. With all these benefits, the app will be an important complement to the Digital Concert Hall and our existing TV apps."
