CUA Kicks Off Spring 2013 School of Music Performances

The Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at The Catholic University of America presents the following performances for the spring 2013 semester. Unless otherwise noted, all performances take place on the CUA campus, and admission is free and open to the public. New Voices @CUA Festival
The University, in partnership with Great Noise Ensemble, presents the New Voices @CUA 2013 Festival, a series of concerts of new vocal works by emerging composers. Four concerts produced by students in the Composition Division will feature the works of 21 composers from the United States and England, and will include sacred music, art and cabaret songs, chamber music, and pieces by CUA student composers.

Tickets are free for CUA students and faculty with ID; $15 general admission; $10 seniors 60 and up and students with ID; free admission for students 17 and under when accompanied by ticketed adult; $50 general admission festival pass; $30 seniors and students with ID festival pass. CUA Town and Gown Community Chorus
The CUA Town and Gown Community Chorus will perform on Friday, Jan. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Chapel. Kevin O'Brien, lecturer in conducting, will conduct Britten: St. Nicholas, opus 42 featuring guest soloist Rick Christman, clinical assistant professor of voice, tenor.

The Music of Marvin Hamlisch
The Musical Theatre Division's presentation of songs by Marvin Hamlisch will be Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m., at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

CUA Symphony Orchestra
The CUA Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Searle, assistant professor, will perform on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 4 p.m. at Sligo Seventh Day Adventist Church, 7700 Caroll Ave., Takoma Park, Md. The performance will feature Brahms, Symphony No. 4; Sibelius, Overture from "Pohjola's Daughter"; and "My Man's Gone Now," from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess with 2012 CUA Concerto Competition Winner Nakia Verner; and Saint-Saens Cello Concerto No. 2 with 2012 CUA Concerto Competition Winner Fanny Nemeth-Weiss.

Musical: The Drowsy Chaperone
The Music Theatre Division will present The Drowsy Chaperone on Friday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m.; Friday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m. Music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. Book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar. Tickets will be available February 2013. Performances will take place in Ward Recital Hall.
