Great Music at St. Bart's will present The Salomé Chamber Orchestra in a concert of works by Johann Sebastian Bach in celebration of the composer's 327th birthday on Wednesday, March 21 at 7:30 pm.

New York City compels young adults to be at once adaptable, optimistic, multi-faceted and resourceful. The musicians of Salomé feel that the very survival and evolution of classical music within such a fast-paced, cosmopolitan environment requires a dynamic balance of novelty, tradition, and hard work.

It was with this vision in mind that the Salomé Chamber Orchestra, New York City's electrifying new conductor-less string ensemble, was formed in September 2009. The Orchestra, founded by the Carpenter siblings (violinists Sean and Lauren and violist David), is dedicated to advancing the works of both underappreciated and well-recognized chamber composers alike, and to performing a broad range from Baroque to contemporary repertoire. Salomé's approach to music-making produces performances which attest to the wealth of talent that can be found in this great city and in our generation. To date, the Orchestra has performed at venues around Manhattan including Steinway Hall, Carnegie Hall, Barge Music, Christie's, MILK Studios, and the MET Museum; on NPR's Performance Today; and on national TV. Salomé has collaborated with leading soloists, including guitarist Sharon Isbin and violist David Aaron Carpenter, with 2012 performances slated with violinist Philippe Quint.

Salomé is based in Manhattan and consists of top-ranking graduates from The Curtis Institute of Music, The Julliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Princeton University, and Yale University.

At St. Bart's, Salome will perform an all-Bach program including the Brandenburg Concertos #3 and #6 and the New York City premiere of Bach's Goldberg Variations as transcribed by Dmitry Sitkovetsky, the brilliant Russian conductor and violinist.

Tickets at $40 and $25 with a $30 and $15 rate for students/seniors can be purchased online at www.stbarts.org or with a credit card by calling (212) 378-0248, and will be available at the concert desk at St. Bart's Central daily from 9 am - 6 pm and will be available at the door on the afternoon of the concert. Angel Club prime seating is also available for $100 (includes a tax-deductible contribution to Great Music at St. Bart's).

The Great Music Series, produced by the Mid-Manhattan Performing Arts Foundation, Inc., offers a diverse variety of concerts from large scale choral works and organ concerts in the church to chamber music and jazz in the acoustically remarkable chapel. Crucial to the musical programming of the series is St. Bartholomew's Choir, a fully professional choir, and the Boy and Girl Choristers, renowned as one of the finest children's choir in the metropolitan area. The church also possesses an Aeolian/Skinner pipe organ of 168 stops, the largest in New York City and considered to be one of the greatest examples of the American Classic Organ of the 20th century.
