The annual Halloween haunt at Walt Disney Concert Hall features the chilling film, The Cat and the Canary, starring Laura La Plante. The projection of the 1920s silent movie will be accompanied by a live soundtrack performed by organist Clark Wilson on Halloween, Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 8:00 PM.
The Cat and the Canary revolves around Cyrus West's relatives, who are waiting for the rich patriarch’s last will and testament to be read, 20 years after his death. On the appointed day, his expectant heirs arrive at his mansion. Annabelle West (Laura La Plante), inherits everything, but only if she is deemed sane. If she isn't, the estate goes to Annabelle’s successor, whose name is in a sealed envelope. Before the identity of her successor is revealed, the lawyer disappears - the first in a series of mysterious events which raise questions about Annabelle’s sanity and the safety of West’s relatives.
Accompanying the 1927 silent film is organist Clark Wilson, who returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall for the ninth straight year. Wilson is one of the most prominent and recognized scorers of silent photoplays in America today. He works exclusively with the organ in developing accurate and historic musical accompaniments as they were performed in major picture palaces during the heyday of the silent film. Wilson’s organ theatrics give a pulse to these silent films, intensifying the suspenseful and chilling twists. Based in Ohio, Wilson is an acclaimed organ technician and consultant. He has earned both the ATOS Organist of the Year award and the ATOS Technician of Merit award - the only person to receive both distinctions.
