Hanover Symphony Orchestra Presents MUSICAL EVOLUTION OF FRIGHT Concert, 10/28

Hanover Symphony Orchestra opens its 18th Concert Season of making "Beautiful Music Together", with "The Musical Evolution of Fright: From the Baroque to the 20th Century" under the direction of the very talented Interim Music Director, Brian Buterbaugh.

This first concert of the 2012 -2013 season is a survey of scary…spooky…and surprising music from the Baroque period to the present. Full of Halloween classics with some new and frightening ideas as well, this concert will get all audience members in the mood for Halloween. Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 3:00pm at Eichelberger Performing Arts Center, 195 Stock Street, Hanover, PA.

Last concert season Mr. Butterbaugh directed our fall concert "Fish & Chips: An English Treat" as a guest conductor, which was met with rave reviews. Previously he played cello with the Hanover Symphony 2010 -2011 Concert Season. Our former Music Director, Larry Kuntz after sixteen years with the Hanover Symphony Orchestra, retired to spend more time with his family. We wish he and his family the very best as he was with the Hanover Symphony Orchestra since its inception in 1995.

Originally from Berks County, Brian Buterbaugh is currently in his third year as Orchestra and Choral Director at Spring Grove High School in Spring Grove, Pa. At Spring Grove, Brian directs the High School Symphonic Orchestra, two large group choirs, a select mixed choir and a vocal jazz ensemble.

In May of 2010 Mr. Buterbaugh graduated from Penn State University at University Park, Pa with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. Brian studied cello with Kim Cook and Carol Lyon. As a cellist, he has performed at venues such as Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia and Carnegie Hall in New York City. He has also played with various orchestras and small ensembles throughout Pennsylvania, including Penn State Philharmonic Orchestra, and Central Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra.

As a conductor, Brian has studied with Dr. Christopher Kiver; Dr. O. Richard Bundy; Geraldo Edelstein, Gregory Woodbridge and Dr. Timothy Dixon. He has had the opportunity to conduct and work with top High School Orchestras from across the state, and locally with the York Youth Symphony Orchestra. Currently he is pursuing his Master's degree in Conducting at Messiah College and this summer he married Julie Gonsman, a cellist with the Hanover Symphony Orchestra.
