British conductor and international artist Mark Wigglesworth directs the Juilliard Orchestra in the final concert of Juilliard's FOCUS! 2013 festival, paying homage this season to the creativity, substance, and renaissance of British music after World War II. The FOCUS! finale begins with Michael Tippett's lively Ritual Dances from his opera Midsummer Marriage, followed by Oliver Knussen's single-movement Horn Concerto--an expressive and demanding piece with traces of nocturnal melodies. Mark-Anthony Turnage's Ceres, named after one of the first asteroids ever discovered, explores the composer's attraction to "the doomsday aspect of asteroids," and Benjamin Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem brings the festival to a stunning and dramatic close, musically exploring the emotional spectrum from savagery to solace
