Milwaukee Youth Symphony Presents Spring Concert Today, 5/6

Milwaukee-Youth-Symphony-Presents-Spring-Concert-56-20010101

Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra presents the first of three Spring Concerts today, May 6, 2012, at 3:00 PM, in Uihlein Hall of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.

It will feature performances by MYSO's Brass Choir, Junior Symphony Orchestra, Junior Wind Ensemble, and its internationally acclaimed flagship orchestra, the Senior Symphony, performing works of Ralph Vaughan Williams, John Zdechlik, Giovanni Gabrieli, Nicolai Rinsky Korsakov, George Gershwin, Antonin Dvo?ák, Aaron Copland, William Walton and more (see below).

MYSO's Senior Symphony performance will feature as soloist 12-year-old-violinist Hannah White, the winner of this year's Senior Symphony Concerto Competition and 2012 Carrie Rondeau Memorial Scholarship (awarded in memory of a talented and beloved alumna of the MFY/MYSO program) performing Zigeunerweisen ("Gypsy Airs"), Op. 20, of Pablo de Sarasate. Miss White, of Germantown, studies violin with Hye-Sun Lee at the Music Institute of Chicago.

Through the John Downey Creation Project, a joint project with Milwaukee's Present Music, two world premiere performances will be featured on the May 6 program: Fly composed by 14-year-old Elaine Hyke, of Muskego--performed by the Junior Wind Ensemble--and The End of an Era composed by 17-year-old Isaac Young, of Waukesha, to be performed by the Senior Symphony. Mr. Young, the Senior Symphony's Co-Concertmaster, will also conduct this piece.

Don't miss this opportunity to hear some of the most talented young musicians in southeastern Wisconsin. Tickets for the May 6 performance are $12 for adults and $9 for students and senior citizens (age 60 and over). For tickets and information, please call MYSO at 414-267-2950, or go to our website at www.myso.org.

Celebrating 56 years of excellence, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) has been instrumental in changing the lives of young people since 1956 when it began as a single orchestra of 30 musicians. Since its early beginnings it has grown to become, by several measures, the largest and most extensive youth orchestra program in the country. Serving more than 900 talented young musicians from as many as 14 counties in southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, this award-winning program offers the highest level of training in ensemble musicianship to motivated young people from diverse backgrounds. Students with varied levels of instrumental skills benefit from the broad range of MYSO experiences, all created to foster talent, build character and enhance lives by nurturing an enduring love of music.
