Spend a memorable weekend at Music Mountain, America's oldest continuing summer chamber music festival. The weekend begins with the Galvanized Jazz Band on Saturday, August 17 (6:30PM) followed by The Dover String Quartet with acclaimed violist, Roberto Diaz performing Haydn, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn on Sunday, August 18 (3PM). This summer has been one that has featured rarely performed works plus premieres; and this weekend is no exception, with special moments and rare guest artists. The 84th season of chamber music, country and jazz concerts continue at Gordon Hall through September 8.

The Galvanized Jazz Band makes its record-breaking 20th appearance at Music Mountain! Don't forget your dancing shoes when this high energy, audience favorite plays the best of Dixieland, New Orleans Jazz, Blues, Stomps, and Spirituals. The five members who make up the Galvanized Jazz Band are phenomenal musicians individually, with countless years of performing, recording, and touring experience. They have traveled the globe and worked with some of the greatest veterans of jazz music. For over three decades the Galvanized Jazz Band has been thrilling audiences of all ages - come hear why CT Magazine readers voted them the Number One Jazz Band in the State!

The Dover String Quartet makes their second appearance this summer with guest artist Roberto Diaz, Viola. The afternoon's program will feature Haydn: Quartet Opus 76 No. 4 Sunrise; Beethoven: Quartet in E Minor Opus. 59 No. 2; and Mendelssohn: Viola Quintet in B Flat Major, Opus 87. Music Mountain gratefully acknowledges concert support by the Hellen Plummer Foundation with its gift in memory of James Merrill, Connecticut's first Poet Laureate.

As the youngest quartet performing this summer at Music Mountain, the Dover String Quartet members were only 19 years old when they formed at the Curtis Institute of Music in 2008. Since then they have gone on to be recognized as a remarkably talented group, winning top prizes at the Fischoff Competition and the London International String Quartet Competition. The quartet recently concluded a European tour with performances throughout Germany, Austria, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The Dover String Quartet is currently the Graduate String Quartet-in-Residence at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music in Houston, Texas.

Roberto Diaz, the distinguished violist and President and CEO of the Curtis Institute of Music, makes his Music Mountain debut. With an international reputation, Mr. Diaz is an equally respected performer and educator. He has performed nationally and internationally with Orchestras, Symphonies and in recital performances. An active chamber musician, Mr. Diaz is a member of the Díaz Trio, performing throughout the United States, Europe, Mexico, and Chile. Before his appointment at the Curtis Institute, Mr. Diaz was former principAl Viola of the Philadelphia Orchestra. In addition, he was principAl Viola of the National Symphony, and a member of the Boston Symphony, and Minnesota Orchestra.

The Saturday Twilight series concludes with the first annual Folk Music Jamboree (August 24) - a full day of music, dancing, crafts, and food! The Music Mountain Sunday afternoon Chamber Music Series continues through Sunday, September 8th.
