Paul-Dyer-Leads-BACH-ETERNAL-Concert-Series-507-19-20010101

Artistic director Paul Dyer conducts Bach Eternal the concert series featuring the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Brandenburg Choir tonight, May 9 through May 19 on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7pm with a special Saturday matinee on May 19 at 2pm. This performance will take place at City Recital Hall Angel Place.

Tickets start at $61 (Under 30 from $26). Call (02) 9328 7581 or visit www.brandenburg.com.au to purchase tickets.

When a young harpsichordist named Paul Dyer returned from early music study in Europe with the vision to start Australia’s first baroque orchestra, he also chose to pay homage to the genius of Bach in the naming of his new ensemble. "For a musician, performing Bach is the ultimate. It’s ferociously challenging and yet overwhelmingly satisfying. It is total perfection and always gives an inward sense of fulfillment. I named the orchestra and choir after his Brandenburg Concertos to honour him. It’s impossible not to be profoundly touched by the genius of Bach."

The Bach Eternal series in May is the quintessential Brandenburg experience - Australia’s finest baroque musicians on period instruments and Paul’s "choir of angels". The first half is devoted to the master JS Bach and his stunning choral masterpieces, including the famous chorale from one of his much loved cantatas best known as Jesu joy of man's desiring, as well as his lively Orchestral Suite No.1.

From the divine bliss of Bach the concert proceeds with the Australian premiere of music by Zelenka, the leading Czech composer of the baroque period, and a double horn concerto by Telemann, performed on natural horns by Darryl Poulsen and Dorée Dixon. The concert culminates in the triumphant sound of Handel's majestic Coronation Anthems

Now is the chance to hear the Brandenburg Choir at their best as they return to the stage for the first time in 2012. Bach Eternal is the orchestra and choir’s first concert together since the massively successful Noël! Noël! of 2011, a sell out season during which their new release CD peaked at number one on the ARIA Classical Album Chart and also entered the ARIA pop chart.
