Ravinia Features Recitals by Pianists Sean Botkin and Behzod Abduraimov, 8/28 & 31

Continuing Ravinia's series of $10 concerts in the intimate Bennett Gordon Hall is pianist Behzod Abduraimov performing a 6 p.m. concert on Friday, Aug. 31. The performance will include Schubert's Sonata in A Major; Beethoven's "Appassionata" Sonata; Saint-Saëns/Liszt/Horowitz's Danse Macabre; and Liszt's Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude and Mephisto Waltz No. 1. Abduraimov has been a recognized soloist since his first performance at age 8 with the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan. He won first prize in the 2009 London International Piano Competition for his performance of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3. There will be no lawn sales for this concert.

Pianist Sean Botkin, who performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in an all-Rachmaninoff program on Aug. 2 at Ravinia, returns for a solo recital in Bennett Gordon Hall at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28. The program includes Rachmaninoff's preludes and Sonata No. 1 in D Minor. Botkin has performed extensively in the United States, Europe, Central and South America, Asia and Russia, and is particularly devoted to the study and performance of the music of Rachmaninoff. In addition to his recordings, he most recently performed a series of concerts in Europe sponsored by Alexander Rachmaninoff and the Rachmaninoff Foundation. There will be no lawn sales for this concert.

Back by popular demand at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28, Momix dance company presents an encore staging of Botanica, which received its Chicago premiere at Ravinia last summer. With an eclectic score ranging from birdsong to Vivaldi, Botanica puts its dancers through recreations of nature's changing imagery, supported by stunning costumes, one-of-a-kind props, magical puppetry and colorful projections. Under the direction of Moses Pendelton, Momix is a company of dancer-illusionists known internationally for presenting inventive and beautiful works. The company has been featured on television including performances on PBS's Dance in America series and in national commercials for Hanes and Target. Momix also appeared in Imagine, one of the first 3-D IMAX films to be released worldwide as well as in Robert Altman's film The Company. This performance is part of the Ruth Page Festival of Dance, celebrating the late dancer/choreographer.

Daryl Hall & John Oates, together known as one of the most successful duos in rock history, return to the festival for a 7:30 p.m. performance on Saturday, Sept. 1. The duo has sold more than 60 million albums and penned eight number-one singles, including "She's Gone," "Rich Girl" and "Kiss on My List." This concert is part of the group's Do What You Want, Be What You Are Tour 2012.

With over 100 million records sold, 22 American hit singles and 30 UK top-40 songs, Duran Duran has been a constant on the music scene since their breakout in the early 1980's. They make their Ravinia debut at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29. The band transformed music videos into one of the music industry's most valued assets with such hit singles as "Rio," "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "The Reflex." This concert is completely sold out in the pavilion and on the lawn.
