The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal announces a change of soloist for the Budapest Festival Orchestra concert taking place on Tuesday, January 22 at 8 p.m. at Maison symphonique de Montréal. Violinist Janine Jansen, who has had to withdraw from the Orchestra's tour for health reasons, will be replaced by Dutch violinist Liza Ferschtman, 2006 recipient of the Dutch Music Prize, the highest distinction granted to a musician in the Netherlands.
In recent years Liza Ferschtman has been heard with all the Dutch orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw and the Rotterdam Philharmonic, as well as with a number of European and Asian orchestras. Her recording of the Beethoven concerto and romances was hailed by critics, and her album devoted to works for violin solo by Bach and Ysaÿe was chosen by Strad magazine as CD of the month.
The program otherwise remains unchanged, and consists of Shostakovich's Suite for Variety Orchestra, Bernstein's Serenade (after Plato's Symposium, a work featuring Ms. Ferschtman) and Rachmaninov's popular Symphony No. 2.
The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal wishes to thank Loto-Québec, the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts de Montréal for their generous support.
