The Hollywood Bowl celebrates its 45th year of presenting SummerSounds, one of the most popular children's festivals in Southern California. The six-week festival of world music and arts for children ages 3 to 11 takes place weekday mornings, beginning on Monday, July 9, and running weekdays until Friday, August 17, with two performances each Monday through Friday, at 10am and 11:15am.

With the help of two hosts, exuberant Emily and her neighbor, grumpy Mr. Kay, children are led on a dynamic journey to discover Reggae, Filipino and Latin music. Created especially for kids, the 2012 SummerSounds program features live music and dance on the SummerSounds stage, located in the patio of the Hollywood Bowl Museum. Art workshops guided by professional artists are also offered for children and their families before or after each performance. Children get to choose one fun project to create while learning about art making, artists and different cultures. Tickets for SummerSounds are $7 (music) and $5 (art).

Reggae with David Kirton, July 9 - 20

Modern roots music from Barbados. Celebrate the rhythms of island living, from dancing on the beach to singing the songs in your heart. David Kirton's sound and aura is far from a “typical” reggae artist. His music is a unique hybrid of rock, pop and reggae that moves past the reverent Caribbean rhythms of the past and on to the airwaves and dance floors of the future.

Filipino Music with Dulce Capadocia, July 23 – August 3

Traditional music and dance from the Philippines, including dances with large bamboo poles. Interactive dance features the fable A Crocodile's Tale in a musical adventure about trust and gratitude. Award-winning dancer Dulce Capadocia was raised in L.A.'s Historic Filipinotown and has traveled around the globe to conduct field work on indigenous Philippine cultures. She holds degrees in dance from Loyola Marymount University and Temple University, and was a finalist for the coveted James Irvine Foundation's Dancemaker fellowship.

Latin Music with Trio Ellas, August 6 - 17

Mariachi music from Mexico, with a uniquely Los Angeles twist. Savor the combination of violin, guitar and guitarrón with vocal harmonies inspired by the Andrews Sisters. Los Angeles-based mariachi ensemble Trio Ellas fuses elements of traditional mariachi with classic romantic trio touches and even modern urban rock to create a Signature Sound.

The 2012 SummerSounds programs complement concerts on the Hollywood Bowl’s mainstage, including Reggae Night (July 15), Filipino Night (July 8), and Gustavo Dudamel’s festival Americas & Americans (Aug. 14 – 19).

Tickets ($7 per person, Music Performance; $5 per child, Art Workshop) are on sale now at HollywoodBowl.com, by calling 323.850.2000, and in person at the Hollywood Bowl Box Office beginning Saturday, May 5. (Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more for the same performance. Tickets are $5 per person for Music Performances and $3 per child for the Arts Workshop. Please note that groups will not be seated until the entire group has arrived.)
