Texas Performing Arts Presents Les Violins Du Roy with Flutist Emmanuel Pahud Tonight, 10/26

Texas Performing Arts presents an extraordinary evening of chamber music featuring the Canadian String Orchestra, Les Violins Du Roy, Bernard Labadie, Artistic & Music director, with world-renowned flutist, Emmanuel Pahud tonight, October 26, 2012 at Bass Concert Hall, 8:00 pm. Preceding this will be a pre-performance lecture by Dr. Guido Olivieri in the Bass Concert Hall Lobby at 7 pm.

This concert is presented in partnership with the Butler School of Music; they are grateful to The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for their support of classical music programming at Texas Performing Arts.

The program includes Franz Benda: Sinfonia in F major, Frederick the Great: Concerto for flute in C major, Johann Joachim Quantz: Concerto for flute in G major, J.S. Bach: Ricercare a 6 (from The Musical Offering), C.P.E. Bach: Symphony for strings in B minor, Wq 182/5, and C.P.E. Bach: Concerto for flute in A major, H. 438.

Widely acclaimed for the exceptional energy, brilliance, and vitality of its performances in the world’s major venues,  Canada’s distinguished string orchestra, Les Violons du Roy its name from the renowned string orchestra of the court of the French Kings. Music director Bernard Labadie brought the group together in 1984, which has a core membership of fifteen players. Les Violons Du Roy performs in the stylistic manner most appropriate to each era and specializes in the vast repertoire of music for chamber orchestra.

Emmanuel Pahud is internationally recognized as one of the greatest flutists of our time. He was one of the youngest principal players at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra when he was appointed in 1992. His innate musicality and extraordinary technique created a great demand for him as a chamber musician, and in this context, he has collaborated with most of the world’s top soloists. His regular recital partners include: Eric Le Sage, Hélène Grimaud, Yefim Bronfman, and jazz pianist Jacky Terrasson.

The Campus & Community Engagement Event is the 7:00 pm pre-performance lecture by Dr. Guido Olivieri in Bass Concert Hall lobby.
