Violinist Tricia Park and Pianist Conor Hanick to Perform at Coralville Performing Arts Center, 6/4

Tricia Park, violinist and Conor Hanick, pianist will perform in recital at the Coralville Performing Arts Center on June 4, 2013 at 7:30PM. This performance is free and open to the public. The Coralville Center for the Performing Arts is located at 1301 5th Street in Coralville.

This program will feature Leon Kirchner's Duo No. 2 for violin and piano. One of his late works, this voluptuous and passionate composition was commissioned in memory of the great violinist and pedagogue, Felix Galimir. This piece is especially poignant for the timing of its composition; written shortly after the death of the composer's wife, it is doubly elegiac and profound.

Park and Hanick are delighted to be performing the Kirchner at the special request of Judy and Richard Hurtig who, with Richard's sister and brother-in-law, commissioned the work in memory of their uncle, Felix Galimir.

Praised by critics for her "astounding virtuosic gifts" (Boston Herald) and "achingly pure sound" (The Toronto Star), concert violinist TRICIA PARK enjoys a diverse and eclectic career as soloist, chamber musician, concertmaster, educator, and festival curator. As First Violinist of the Maia Quartet from 2005-2011, she performed at Lincoln Center, the 92nd Street Y and Beijing's Forbidden City Hall and was on faculty at the University of Iowa. Tricia is a recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant and is currently Professor of Violin at the University of Notre Dame. A pianist that "defies human description" for some (Harry Rolnick, Concerto Net) and recalls "a young Peter Serkin" for others (Anthony Tommasini, New York Times), Iowa City native, CONOR HANICK, has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Asia and collaborated with some of the world's leading conductors and is devoted to presenting a wide-variety of music with a focus on modern repertoire. He teaches at Smith College, produces radio at Q2 and resides in Brooklyn, New York City.
