Virtuoso pianist Yefim Bronfman joined the program, performing the West Coast premiere of Piano Concerto No. 2, by New York Philharmonic Composer-in-Residence Magnus Lindberg. Also on the program were Dvorák’s Carnival Overture and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. Though Gilbert had previously appeared at Walt Disney Concert Hall (WDCH), most recently during the 2006/07 season, the performance was the New York Philharmonic’s WDCH debut. Handel and Haydn Highlight Boston Baroque's 2012-2013 Season

Music Director Martin Pearlman will conduct five programs of two performances each, taking place at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall in Boston or at Sanders Theatre at Harvard University in Cambridge. Highlights of the season will include a rarely-performed Handel comic opera, Partenope; Haydn’s “Lord Nelson” Mass, which is slated to be recorded for later release on CD; Handel’s Messiah at the holidays; and concerts that feature members of the orchestra and chorus in small ensemble and solo roles.

Philip Glass Remix Album Featuring Beck, Tyondai Braxton and More Set for Release 10/23

The idea for the record came together during a conversation between Philip and his friend and new collaborator Beck. The pair recruited producer Hector Castillo (David Bowie, Björk, Lou Reed) to help assemble a collection of remixes of Glass’ works by a list of critically acclaimed artists including Beck himself, Tyondai Braxton, Amon Tobin, Cornelius, Johann Johannsson, Nosaj Thing, Memory Tapes, Silver Alert and many others.

LA Master Chorale Showcases 1,000 Southland Teens at High School Choir Festival Tonight, 5/4

This year’s event, the 23rd Annual Los Angeles Master Chorale High School Choir Festival, features participating students in a massed 1,000-voice choir tonight, May 4, 2012, at 1 pm, at Disney Hall. There will also be a special performance by the 80-voice Festival honor Choir, comprised of students from the 25 participating schools. Grant Gershon, music director of the LA Master Chorale, conducts both choirs, which have been rehearsing for the concert since last fall.
