Christopher Ferdinand Durang (January 2, 1949 – April 2, 2024) was an American playwright known for works of outrageous and often absurd comedy. His work was especially popular in the 1980s, though his career seemed to get a second wind in the late 1990s.

Christopher Durang has been nominated for several awards throughout his career, including the Legend of Off Broadway Honoree, Best Play in the BroadwayWorld Awards for "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike," Outstanding Play in the Drama Desk Awards for the same production, and Best Play at the Tony Awards for "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike." He was also honored as a Playwrights' Sidewalk Inductee at The Lortels. Durang won The Pulitzer Prize for Drama twice, for "Miss Witherspoon." Additionally, he received Obie Awards for Playwriting for "Betty's Summer Vacation" and "The Marriage of Bette and Boo," and Outstanding Actor in a Musical at the Drama Desk Awards for "Das Lusitania Songspiel." He also won an Obie Award for Playwriting for "Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All for You" and was nominated for Best Book of a Musical at the Tony Awards for "A History of the American Film."
