Madison Lyric Stage, a professional theater company serving the Connecticut Shoreline, announced that its 2019 mainstage season will include: Carlisle Floyd's opera Of Mice and Men, based on the John Steinbeck classic, in May/June; the Stephen Sondheim fairy tale musical Into the Woods in July; and, for Halloween, Engelbert Humperdinck's enchanted opera Hansel and Gretel in October. All three productions will be directed by Marc Deaton.

San Francisco Opera General Director Matthew Shilvock today announced repertory and casting for the Company's 97th Season, opening Friday, September 6, 2019, with a gala performance of Charles Gounod's Romeo and Juliet (Rom o et Juliette) starring tenor Bryan Hymel and soprano Nadine Sierra in Op ra de Monte-Carlo Director Jean-Louis Grinda's production. Andrea Wolff's I Can't Trace Time, a passionate and whimsical musical memoir, will play a show at downtown's alt-cabaret, Pangea, on Feb. 22nd, 2019 at 7pm. With a signature mixture of pop and Broadway played only by Music Director/Pianist Jude Obermuller and with an appearance by Special Guest, Sean Harkness, I Can't Trace Time features a master entertainer who has been widely lauded for her strong comic timing, offbeat and compelling characterizations and superb taste in music.

Haunting, gentle spirits from far-flung worlds meet in the pulsing sphere of dreams and lullabies that is Angel Heart, a music storybook. With an original tale by best-selling children's fantasy writer Cornelia Funke, Angel Heart weaves an evocative original score by Luna Pearl Woolf with beloved songs by Irving Berlin, Lennon-McCartney, Jake Heggie, Engelbert Humperdinck, Gordon Getty, and others. The Chelsea Symphony, featured in the hit Amazon show Mozart in the Jungle, continues its 2018/19 season, entitled Resolution, with a holiday concert on December 7 featuring actress and musician Annie Golden, known for her role in Orange is the New Black, as the guest narrator for the orchestra's own special version of The Night Before Christmas by composer Aaron Dai. This concert is conducted by Reuben Blundell, Mark Seto, and Nell Flanders.

The opera's original libretto is steeped in nineteenth century culture but Richard Sparks' translation, originally for the 2006 LA presentation of the opera, brought the text up to date and made it most appealing to contemporary children.
